Fall
2002—Development of automated QA/QC sampling system for
back-packing into environmentally sensitive areas or for projects with
very poor access or infrastructure.
Spring
2002—Completion of Northern Alberta field test of C1-C18 methods.
The project was supported by industry funds and grants from KTEC.
The test area was gas charged meandering sand channels that were
trapped by the presence of shale plugs.
Fall
2001—Development of analytical methods for C1-C18 gas-sieve
samples under the technical advisement of Shell Oil.
The new longer chain hydrocarbon data will be used to better
“fingerprint” the hydrocarbon microseeps from reservoirs.
A detailed hydrocarbon model of reservoir vs. dry location can
now be created and used for interpretation purposes.
Spring
2000—Tarn Field Analog. Permafrost
cores were collected at Phillip’s Tarn field and analyzed for C1-C6
using gas-sieve methodology. A
hydrocarbon model of the field was made and available for use on future
North Slope projects.
Fall
2000—Alaska’s Area-Wide 2000 Lease Sale Acreage.
C1-C6 data was generated from permafrost cores collected on a
1-mile grid near Phillip’s Tarn and Meltwater Fields, North Slope of
Alaska. This data were compared to the geochemistry model of the Tarn
Field. The survey results
are for sale by the operator.
Winter
2000—Development of Permafrost Sampling Methods.
Prudhoe Bay, Alaska was the test area for development of
permafrost coring methods. The
project was funded by industry. After
the cores were collected, they were processed by degassing the vapor
onto gas-sieves and then analyzed for C1-C6 hydrocarbons.
A C1-C6 geochemistry model of Drill Site #12 was generated. This model was used when interpreting other North Slope data
sets.
Spring
2000—Completion of “Red Top Project”.
KTEC and industry funded 30 C1-C6 gas-sieve geochemistry surveys
prior to the drilling of 70+ wells.
The goal of the project was to accumulate a large body of
gas-sieve data and develop some models of interpretation for the data.
The surveys were conducted in the Mid-Continent and about 1/3
were gas projects and 2/3 were oil.
The survey data were able to accurately predict dry vs. producing
wells in 80-85% of the surveys. All
survey results were provided to the operator prior to reaching T.D.
The surveys are public information and available for review.
