The deep reservoir
(green) and the shallow reservoir (blue) are both virgin
reservoirs. Where they overlap the hydrocarbons in the soil
profile are contributed by both reservoirs. If the two reservoirs
(green and blue) have different API gravity oil they will look much
different in their surface expression. One example is that lower gravity oil has a
much higher percentage of butane in the soil vapor samples taken above
the reservoir while soil vapor above high gravity oils has a much
greater percentage of ethane. Where both zones overlap the
compositional data suggests "mixing".
