1999 KTEC "Red Top Program" Results
Cheyenne Canyon Project
T2N-T48W
Dundy County, Nebraska
August 12,1999

The Howard-Hamm well (survey location CC-5) was drilled in February 2000 on a NW-SE structural trend of the Lansing-Kansas City that runs parallel to the NW-SE trending Cambridge Arch. This structural trend is one of a series of NW-SE Lansing structural trends occurring west of the Cambrian Arch. The play is located on the eastern flanks of the Denver Basin.

A gas-sieve soil vapor survey was conducted in August 1999 as part of a KTEC sponsored grant program. Gas-sieve data was collected at 20 locations. The resultant data, both total hydrocarbons (C2+C3+C4) and ratios (C2/C3), suggesting composition, is posted on the attached maps. Note that higher total hydrocarbon concentrations are associated with higher valued ratios.

Total hydrocarbon data and ethane/propane ratio data suggests that the operator can expect to encounter commercial Lansing oil at location CC-5. This well is waiting completion now. The new Howard-Hamm well at CC-5 provides an analogue for suggesting that commercial oil can be found at CC-6, CC-9, CC-14, and CC-13. These locations will probably be structurally lower than the original part of the field. It appears that the new well at CC-5 will be productive from only one zone, the Lansing A.

Other low risk, multi-zone locations are at CC-10, CC-8, CC-11 and CC-15. All of these locations have the high total hydrocarbons and high ratios. These choices are based on an analogue of the pre-existing well at CC-4A, a multi-zone Lansing well, the best well in the field to date. It produces from the Oread, Lansing D and Lansing E.
